Welcome to The Medieval Free Company

The Medieval Free Company is a group of families and individuals who all share a common interest in medieval history. We specialise in the recreation of the lifestyle of a group of mercenaries during the Wars of the Roses period. Everything within the camp is recreated, through research, with as much historical accuracy as possible using materials and methods that would have been available at the time. Our focus is on authentic living history camps and archery with traditional English longbow.

Henry V of Agincourt fame also revived the English Navy to protect his communications. He had built a fleet of some of the largest ships known, of which the Grace Dieu was the greatest.   The remains of the Grace Dieu lie in the River Hamble below Manor Farm Country Park and a heritage trail has been created through the beautiful woodlands there.

All his ships were equipped with Archers as part of the compliment of soldiers on board.  As part of the celebrations of the project's completion The Medieval Free Company will be the Camp of Archers awaiting the call to go to sea on the Grace Dieu.

So come on 15/16 July and see how they and their families survived 600 years ago. See an accurate portrayal of the Archers, their skills and weapons. How their families used their everyday activities to keep body and soul together.
It will be open from 11 - 4.

One of the questions we are asked most frequently is 'what are you having for lunch?'
